Nomenus Quarterly is a collaborative online publication working with artists of all mediums and disciplines within the world of fine arts and fashion. It is "published" four times a year and we strongly believe this is one direction our struggling magazine industry could move towards regardless of a magazine's content. A friend of ours recently introduced us to Nomenus and we were completely blown away. First of all, it is stunning! The layout and art direction are perfection, the navigation is simple and the images are much more vibrant online than they could ever possibly be in print. We also like the video aspect and can only imagine what someone could do with the introduction of sound or music. Another plus is not having to flip through ads to get to the next captivating shot. Isn't it time we seize the opportunity to simply focus on beautiful content. Not that there isn't room for advertisers, but there's bound to be an opportunity for improvement there as well. It seems as though the production costs would be much lower, allowing publishers to be less focused on the quantity of advertisers and more focused on the quality of the ads. Also, imagine the paper saved by not printing an actual magazine and the impact it would have on our environment. I know it may seem a bit ambitious, but it's something to think about. (Let's face it-the current business model doesn't seem to be working very well...)The above images are by artist Gideon Rubin who is featured in the current issue of Nomenus and we think they're fantastic!
