A WiseMan's Nature.

This evening we attended a preview of The Object Show at R 20th Century in Tribeca curated by owner's Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman. It's a brilliant collection of objects designed by a talented mix of artisans including Wendell Castle, Paula Hayes, Julia Krantz, Renate Muller, and Jeff Zimmerman to name a few. However, being the nature lovers we are , there was one person in particular who really stood out and whose work we've always admired. 26 year old RISD grad David Wiseman is a gifted craftsman who has a "unique aesthetic informed by his deep appreciation for subtleties in nature, such as the texture of bark or a pattern of moss growing on a rock. In his practice, David highlights these details, and brings his distinct perception of the wilderness to his objects." The above faceted bronze vase was one of our favorite pieces at tonight's show as well as a small bronze branch with porcelain blossoms similar to the branch chandelier in the above photo. Some of you may recognize Wiseman's work from his installation on the ceiling at the Cooper Hewitt Museum for 2006's National Design Triennial (fourth photo above). We're obsessed with the crystal pieces he designed for Artel (last photo). Phenomenal! The Object Show runs through January 10th and we strongly recommend you stop by to see this incredible display of true craftsmanship at it's best.

Brad--

Wiseman's work reminds me of Bradley Sabin's work a bit--Bradley Sabin is an artist from New Orleans that we have on show right now at Grand Contemporary Gallery (www.grandcontemporarygallery.com)--Bradley did a wall piece that is a bronze branch with soft, soft pink petals--truly beautiful and would be stunning over a bed--check it out at www.grandcontemporary.com--
