Stuffed Animals.

Our friend Melissa Dixson was recently featured in the New York Times and we were so excited about the photographs and the format that we had to share it with you here. This particular story is part of an exciting weekly series from the Times called "One in 8 Million," which features the many different characters that make up this colorful city. We actually met Melissa years ago at Potterton Books in the D&D building and one day she told us she was thinking about going back to taxidermy school. Being from Arkansas, this wouldn't have phased us one bit if we'd been back home...but at a bookstore in Manhattan at a Design Center? Well, needless to say we were a bit caught off guard. Fast forward several years and Melissa's proved she's got what it takes to skin a fox or mount a coyote, and she does so with a rather artful eye. In fact, her work is available through Moss here in New York. Congratulations Melissa...we can't wait to see more "stuff." (click here to see and hear Melissa talk about her craft...it's fascinating!)

Humanity's lack of compassion for animals never ceases to astound me. This post makes me sad.

i wonder if anonymous would like to share his sadness with the artist, the nytimes, Moss, or any other shelter sites that show cow hides on the floor, or leather sofas or even leather walls? or food sites? do you get sad when you walk by a shawarma stand? do you let them know?
