Charles in Charge.

Several weeks ago we visited San Francisco where we had the pleasure of touring the San Francisco Decorator Showhouse. There were a number of beautifully designed rooms throughout the house, but there was one in particular that really stood out to us. It also happened to be designed by our friend Charles De Lisle. Charles has a fantastic eye and we can't help but admire his constant "envelope-pushing" work, that he manages to do with both a graceful edge and good taste. The above room which was part of the showhouse is no exception. The scale and proportion of everything is spot on, the color palette is quite sophisticated and the black and white gingham covered walls are irreverent enough to play into the room's overall irony, creating a space that is both edgy and unforgettable. A lot of designers can create a pretty room, but we're always much more interested in the ones that can design a smart space that leaves you thinking about it the next day, and the next day, and so on...

Charles’ experience spans the last 25 years working within the art of ceramics, metalwork, custom furniture, product design, decoration and interiors. Following 10 years as principal and partner of the firm De lisle, Philpotts & Staub, he recently founded his own office the Charles de Lisle Workshop. Projects reach from across California to New York, New England, the Pacific Northwest, Montana & the Hawaiian Islands. We're so enamored with Charles and his designs that we've posted just a few more photos of his work below just to wet your whistle. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have.

What an interesting space! I had believed the walls to be grey until you not noted that it was black and white gingham...good either way;) I love the rope encased cocktail table, do you happen to know who designed that, also love the cord "chandelier", his spaces seem to be very much art driven...which I love, thanks for sharing Brad!

Jaime

I love his work, mostly the choice of colors.

I saw the house opening weekend and the pictures of this room now are NOT the way the room was decorated then. Ditching the blue gingham is probably a tribute to the designer's good taste, although the irony is a little lost in the upgrade.

Those chairs look like they glow in the dark, or even the light. Very cool. Great sense of style with a little wit thrown in.

This is great...the choice of colors are inspired, as are the products used to acheive them.
