Based Upon is a London based studio of artists designing and hand-making large reliefs, sculptural furniture and applied decorative surfaces. The globally acclaimed works are made by hand in layers of metal, resins and lacquers and are usually inspired by nature. Co-founder Ian Abell says, “Over the past 6 years we have worked across art, design and interiors and we have been difficult to categorise. We have introduced Four Labels to make it easier for our customers and collectors to understand the range of things we do and to give each label some space, so that it can be developed independently.” The Four Labels are "based upon": Composed (large scale artworks or installations) Form (furniture and sculpture) Meaning (private commissions) and Surface (hand-made textural material surfaces). We've been intrigued with these folks for sometime and hope we have the opportunity to work with them in the near future. We'll keep you posted.
