As some of you may know we're on the design board for a UK based website called MyDeco.com. This is a fantastic resource not only for it's home decor search engine capabilities, but also for it's incredible design tools, including a 3-D room planner. Well today we're excited to announce that DWR has partnered with MyDeco to launch the DWR 3D Room Planner, enabling users to design their own iconic rooms using DWR's vast collection of modern classics. Customers can either upload an existing floor plan or customize a room shape and then alter the colors, textures, patterns and dimensions of walls, floors, doors and windows to resemble their existing rooms in both 2D and 3D. Once you have a plan you can then start to experiment with hundreds of products from DWR to see what works for your space. Once you feel comfortable with your selections, you'll be sent a high quality 3D rendering in about 2 hours that you can share through facebook, twitter or your own email account. What's even more exciting is that DWR plans to outfit it's new Stamford, Connecticut store with a "Design Bar" that includes computer stations and allows customers to work directly with it's sales team in designing 3-D renderings. They hope to have many more "Design Bars" in other stores in the near future. It's easy and fun, but more importantly extremely helpful to be able to see the scale and proportions of things in your own space before making such a financial commitment. We think it's a very exciting time and we have a feeling you're going to start seeing a lot more of MyDeco at other major retailers in the very near future. I hate to say it but with the opening tagline of not needing a "Pricey Decorator" DWR may have cleverly introduced a new 3D concept which is fun but they sure did label designers and "decorators" as unnecessary. Design isn’t always a luxury that is only offered by pricey decorators, it is a well thought out necessity that provides work for the many more affordable, independent and talented designers!!

This is a great alternative for those who have the talent and inclination to do it themselves. But decorators and designers are also talented, creative beings who provide an incredible service; let's not knock them. Applause all the way around for technology making things more accessible for those up to the challenge.
