ICFF Sighting.

We had an opportunity to walk this year's ICFF show and found some new things that were quite impressive. But there was one particular sighting that got us really excited. In 2011, the design duo Salto & Sigsgaard won a design competition under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture to design the furniture for one of the permanent chambers at the United Nations headquarters here in New York, The Trusteeship Council Chamber also referred to as the Finn Juhl Chamber. In connection with this, Onecollection has developed, produced, and delivered a completely new unique and beautiful chair named ”Council Chair” designed by Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard and it made it's "public" debut at ICFF (the grand opening of the TCC, was held in the UN on April 25th 2013). The chairs pass on the baton from Finn Juhl’s iconic design heritage in a sculptural and pleasant direction, which merges shape, color and natural materials. The chairs are a construction of moulded 3D veneer in oak or walnut, upholstered with leather or fabric. The swivel base is cast in aluminium. A handsome design that we would love to see in context at the UN, but in the meantime, we'll just keep staring at these photos...

Handcrafted Modern: Europe!

One of our absolute favorite design books is Handcrafted Modern done by photographer Leslie Williamson. Granted full access to photograph as she desired, Williamson's book showcased beautifully intimate photographs featuring the homes and work spaces of fourteen design legends including: Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima, Harry Bertoia, Russel Wright, Jens Risom, Eva Zeilsel, Vladimir Kagan, Irving Harper, Walter Gropius, Jerome & Evelyn Ackerman, Charles & Ray Eames, J.B. Blunk, John Kapel, and Albert Frey. The images are stunning and the interiors are truly inspiring.

Now Leslie is working on the European edition, featuring design legends from across the pond including Alvor Aalto's home (seen above).  We've gotten a sneak peek and trust us when we say this book could possibly surpass the original as far as it's beauty and substance. Leslie has worked passionately over the past few years on this project, but now she needs all of our help to reach the finish line. We want to do whatever we can to make this book a reality not only to see it's completion, but also to honor and record these historic places.  Leslie has started a kickstarter campaign and together, there's no doubt we can make this project a reality.  To learn more watch the video below and then click here to see how you can contribute. Thanks for your help!
