We had an opportunity to walk this year's ICFF show and found some new things that were quite impressive. But there was one particular sighting that got us really excited. In 2011, the design duo Salto & Sigsgaard won a design
competition under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture to
design the furniture for one of the permanent chambers at the United
Nations headquarters here in New York, The Trusteeship Council Chamber also referred to as the Finn Juhl Chamber. In connection with this, Onecollection has developed, produced, and
delivered a completely new unique and beautiful chair named ”Council
Chair” designed by Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard and it made it's "public" debut at ICFF (the grand opening of the TCC, was held in the UN on April 25th 2013). The chairs pass on the baton from Finn Juhl’s iconic design heritage
in a sculptural and pleasant direction, which merges shape, color and
natural materials. The chairs are a construction of moulded 3D veneer in
oak or walnut, upholstered with leather or fabric. The swivel base is
cast in aluminium. A handsome design that we would love to see in context at the UN, but in the meantime, we'll just keep staring at these photos...
We're excited to check out the new Collective Design Fair starting this Wednesday here in New York. Close to 25 galleries will be there exhibiting contemporary design and historical pieces from around the world. We're also eager to check out the cafe and VIP lounge created by BDDW. For more information click here. We can assure you this is something you won't want to miss.
